Louis A. Garcia
Louis A Garcia is a an emerging artist residing in Corpus Christi, Texas and is a retired U.S. Navy veteran. He served in Vietnam as a member of the Naval Advisory Group Pacification Program in the Mekong Delta. Fluent in the Vietnamese language during the war, Louis’ role was to meet with remote village inhabitants, explain the involvement of the U.S. military and attempt to elicit information from the villagers on enemy activity. This advisory role allowed Louis to experience humanely intimate and painful experiences in the midst of the devastating war; some of the visual imprints were sketched but have since been lost in time.
These experiences contributed to the development of Louis’ compassionate nature.
Louis embraces life everyday with a passion to paint and to meet new people along their journeys in life. He paints in oils and watercolor to capture the beautiful compositions and colors of each day. His landscape paintings capture the atmosphere and moments in time and his portrait paintings reveal his care and respect by capturing each individual’s essence and radiance. Louis’ most recent contemporary works capture exhilarating color and movement through en plen air painting.
You can sometimes find Louis in studio solitude but most often with artist friends painting in the Hill Country of Utopia, the shores of Rockport, the beaches of Corpus Christi, the wilderness of Minnesota and at the Barbara McDowell Excellence in Art Studio at the Art Center of Corpus Christi.
Louis is a graduate of Texas A&M Corpus Christi. He uses his degree in psychology, business experience and his art to assist local and national non-profit organizations and fellow emerging artists. Louis is a member of, Oil Painters of America, The South Texas Art League, The National Association of Latinos in Art and Culture, The Art Association of Corpus Christi, The South Texas Watercolor Society and The Art Museum of South Texas. Louis served as the 2006-2007 Vice President of the Executive Committee for the Art Community Center Inc of Corpus Christi and is a Lifetime Member of the Art Center of Corpus Christi.
